14 Days Uganda: Savannah, primates trekking and Nile adventures

Thrill. Exploration. Wonder. That’s exactly what awaits you on this unforgettable journey through Uganda’s finest destinations.

After discovering Lake Mburo and its beautiful surroundings by mountain bike, on foot, and in a safari vehicle, you continue to the mysterious and lush Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. Here, you will come face to face with the elusive mountain gorillas, closer than you ever imagined possible.

Leaving the rainforest giants behind, the adventure continues to the majestic Queen Elizabeth National Park, a true paradise for wildlife enthusiasts. Highlights include the famous tree-climbing lions, three additional members of the Big Five, a variety of antelope and monkey species, and relaxed reptiles—all observed during exciting jeep and boat safaris.

In Kibale, you will spend one day exploring a swamp rich in remarkable flora and fauna—an absolute highlight for bird enthusiasts—and the next day encountering our close relatives, the chimpanzees, in their natural habitat.

After these almost unbelievable wildlife experiences, your heart will race once more as you tackle the thrilling white-water rapids of the Nile during a rafting adventure in Jinja.

Important to know: Gorilla trekking is an extremely popular activity (for good reason) and requires both a licensed guide and a permit. For this reason, it must be planned and booked separately in advance. Naturally, we are happy to assist you with the arrangements.

Is it safe to travel to Uganda?

Uganda is a safe country to visit (yay!). Especially if you want to join organised game drives with private guides, as you will do with us. There are, of course, some places to avoid in big cities like Kampala or Entebbe. But – as with everywhere else in the world – you’ll be fine by taking some precautions. Just some examples to be on the safe side (pun intended): don’t explore the city at night without a driver or guide, keep your valuables close to you, avoid wearing big and visible jewellery and leave some things like passports in the hotel safe.

This is a private and exclusive safari designed to let you travel at your own pace. The journey is tailored specifically to you, exactly according to your preferences. Our experienced travel consultants ensure that every detail aligns with your wishes.

There are many benefits to this personalized experience. To begin with, you will travel in a private safari vehicle accompanied by your own dedicated guide. You have full flexibility to decide when to start your day and when to return, while still benefiting from your guide’s expert advice. Additionally, once inside a national park, you can spend as much time as you wish observing particular animals or herds, without feeling rushed. Finally, with a clear understanding of your interests, your personal guide will offer insightful recommendations, transforming your safari into a truly unforgettable adventure.

At Africa Safari Trips, we focus on designing journeys that are uniquely yours. When you plan your African adventure with us, you’re doing more than booking a holiday—you’re beginning a fully personalized experience. We take the time to understand your ideas and preferences and carefully shape every detail to match your vision. Our team works closely with you to ensure your trip is completely tailored to your expectations. For added ease and inspiration, we also offer a selection of our most popular African tours and safaris as a starting point for customization.

Absolutely—Uganda delivers wildlife encounters beyond expectations. Alongside the iconic Big Five, you’ll have the chance to photograph hyenas, hippos, zebras, the distinctive Ugandan kob, and more than 1,000 bird species in a dazzling array of colors. For primate enthusiasts, Uganda is truly unmatched: its lush forests are home to around 24 monkey species, ranging from nocturnal galagos to striking blue monkeys and the awe-inspiring mountain gorillas.

GORILLA TREKKING

The Buhoma sector, located in the northern part of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, is the largest sector and the birthplace of gorilla trekking in Uganda, dating back to 1993. Treks here are generally less demanding and feature some of Africa’s most spectacular forest trails, making them ideal for keen hikers. Please note that participants must be at least 15 years old. Treks typically last 2–4 hours, require proper hiking shoes, and are conducted in small groups of up to eight people, although gorilla sightings can never be guaranteed.
