Flying Doctors

Flying Doctors Services

Planning a safari in East Africa can raise concerns about medical emergencies in remote locations. Fortunately, AMREF Flying Doctors provides reliable air ambulance services, with medical teams and pilots available around the clock across the entire region. For just 40 USD per person for 30 days, you can explore even the most isolated areas of Tanzania, Kenya, Uganda, Burundi, and Rwanda with complete peace of mind.

Stepped on a snake?

If a medical emergency occurs, Flying Doctors are ready to offer expert guidance or quickly airlift you to a hospital in Nairobi, Kenya. So, if you happen to step on a snake in the Masai Mara, help is just one phone call away—often enough to manage the situation and continue your trip.

And should something more serious happen—like breaking your leg while boarding a boat in Uganda’s Queen Elizabeth National Park, or a pre-existing condition flaring up deep in Tanzania’s Serengeti—an aircraft staffed with medical professionals can rapidly reach the nearest airstrip. From there, they’ll transport you directly to a hospital in Nairobi for further treatment.

Few Limitations

Flying Doctors evaluates each situation and provides only emergency assistance and evacuation. Expenses such as visas (if you are flown to Kenya from another country), hospital bills, and treatment costs are your responsibility. This service is not a replacement for travel or health insurance, though AMREF Flying Doctors does help streamline visa procedures to ensure you reach the hospital quickly.

If you face a life-threatening emergency on Mount Kenya, helicopter evacuations can also be arranged, though landing limits depend on weather and terrain.

Peace of Mind

Your safety is our primary concern, which is why we’re happy to help you sign up for Flying Doctors Insurance. While we strive to make every safari smooth and enjoyable—and almost all guests return with unforgettable memories—it’s important to remember that you’re travelling in wild, unpredictable environments.

Flying Doctors have operated since 1957 for exactly this reason: to give safari travellers the reassurance they need. After all, a little adventure is fun—but nobody wants too much!
