Drive from Cape Town to Oudtshoorn

Begin your adventure with one of South Africa’s most scenic road trips, traveling from Cape Town to Oudtshoorn via the famous Route 62. The journey takes approximately five hours and passes through charming towns, vineyards, and spectacular mountain landscapes.

A stop in Robertson, known as the “Valley of Wine and Roses,” is highly recommended. Here, you can enjoy wine tastings, beautiful gardens, and a leisurely lunch surrounded by vineyard views. As you continue along the route, you’ll encounter quirky roadside attractions and picturesque countryside that make this drive truly memorable.

Approaching Oudtshoorn, the landscapes of the Klein Karoo unfold before you, and the region’s famous ostrich farms become a common sight. Upon arrival, an ostrich farm tour is a great introduction to the area’s unique heritage and agricultural traditions.

Arriving in Swellendam after approximately 2.5 hours, you’ll have plenty of time to explore the town’s charming historic center. Take a leisurely walk through its heritage-rich streets before enjoying lunch at one of the local restaurants.

For those who enjoy nature and wildlife, Bontebok National Park offers excellent opportunities for outdoor activities, scenic walks, and sightings of indigenous wildlife in a beautiful natural setting.

Drive from Swellendam to Gansbaai via Algulhas National Park

After breakfast, depart Swellendam and travel through the scenic Overberg region toward Cape Agulhas, approximately 110 km away. At the southernmost tip of Africa, where the Atlantic and Indian Oceans meet, take time to explore the rugged coastline, visit the historic lighthouse, and admire the dramatic landscapes that make this area so unique.

Continue your journey toward Gansbaai with a stop in the charming village of Elim, known for its cool-climate vineyards and relaxed countryside atmosphere. Enjoy a wine tasting and light refreshments while taking in the beauty of the Cape Agulhas Wine Region.

Drive from Gansbaai to Hermanus
