Beyond traditional game drives, this adventure also takes you deeper into lush emerald and golden landscapes by boat and on foot, offering a rich and immersive safari experience.

The journey begins with an exciting start as you encounter rhinos and glide past spectacular waterfalls in Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary and Murchison Falls National Park. Your adventure continues in Kibale National Park, where an unforgettable encounter with chimpanzees—our closest relatives in the wild—awaits. Next comes a classic safari experience in Queen Elizabeth National Park, followed by a thrilling and emotional meeting with Bwindi’s gentle giants, the mountain gorillas. After so much excitement, the trip concludes in a calm and grounding way with a walking safari in Lake Mburo National Park, offering the perfect balance and a memorable end to your adventure.

Important to know: gorilla trekking is an extremely popular activity (understandably) and requires both a guide and a permit. That’s why it needs to be planned and booked in advance and separately. Of course, we’re happy to help you with that.

Is it safe to travel to Uganda?

Uganda is a safe country to visit (yay!). Especially if you want to join organised game drives with private guides, as you will do with us. There are, of course, some places to avoid in big cities like Kampala or Entebbe. But – as with everywhere else in the world – you’ll be fine by taking some precautions. Just some examples to be on the safe side (pun intended): don’t explore the city at night without a driver or guide, keep your valuables close to you, avoid wearing big and visible jewellery and leave some things like passports in the hotel safe.

Drive from Murchison Falls National Park to Kibale National Park

Today, you’ll travel from Murchison Falls to Kibale National Park on a scenic drive of about six hours. Along the way, you’ll pass through lively local villages, dense rainforests, rolling tea estates, and stunning crater lakes before reaching Fort Portal—a warm and welcoming town known as the gateway to Uganda’s great adventures. On a clear day, the snow-covered peaks of the Rwenzori Mountains come into view. Your journey then leads to Kibale Forest, famously known as the primate capital of the world, home to an incredible 13 species of monkeys.

Mountain gorilla trekking in Rushaga (southern sector)

The Rushaga sector, located in the southern region of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, is home to eight gorilla families, including some that are not yet fully accustomed to human interaction. On a mountain gorilla trekking experience, you’ll navigate challenging forest trails and spend either one unforgettable hour with the habituated groups or, for an additional fee, up to four hours observing the less familiar gorillas in their natural environment. This truly once-in-a-lifetime encounter allows you to watch these magnificent creatures feed, interact, and move under the watchful protection of the silverback—an emotional and awe-inspiring moment that often brings happy tears. Gorilla trekking is conducted in small groups of up to eight people, requires sturdy hiking footwear, and usually lasts between two and four hours. As this highly sought-after activity requires a permit and an experienced guide, it must be booked separately and well in advance.

Day 10

Drive from Bwindi Impenetrable National Park to Lake Mburo National Park

After an unforgettable gorilla trekking adventure, you continue your journey from Bwindi Impenetrable Forest to Lake Mburo National Park. The scenic drive of about seven hours takes you through changing landscapes, as dense forests slowly give way to rolling green hills and wide open savannah plains. Lake Mburo is rich in wildlife drawn by its lush vegetation and water sources, so keep your binoculars ready—you may spot zebras, giraffes, and a wide variety of birdlife along the way.
